Music

The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for this pre-eminence is that, as sacred song united to the words, it forms a necessary or integral part of the solemn liturgy. (Sacrosanctum Concilium, Chapter VI, Article 112, December 1963)

The Council Fathers tell us that sacred music is pre-eminent, above all the other arts, because sacred music IS liturgy. The Sacred Music Ministry at St. Anthony Mary Claret Parish exists to assist the praying congregation in participating in the sacred liturgy by singing THE Mass not just singing AT Mass.

We invite all members of our parish to actively participate in the sacred liturgy by singing the responses in dialogue with the celebrant, and by singing the Ordinary of the Mass, the Lord Have Mercy, Glory to God, Holy, Holy, Holy, and Lamb of God, and by singing the Proper prayers of the Mass as well, the Entrance and Communion Antiphons, Responsorial Psalm, and Alleluia. We also encourage the congregation in singing the hymns.

We also invite interested parishioners, children and adults, to participate in the liturgy by singing in one of our parish CHOIRS. Instrumentalists are also welcome.

No audition is required and rehearsals vary.
